Lions Club member, Eileen, fundraises in her district to help fight leukaemia - and raises £5,500!
Eileen Harris and her husband, George, are both members of Lions Club of Leigh on Sea.
Lions Clubs International has over 44,500 clubs and more than 1.3 million members in 203 countries around the world. They work to meet the needs of communities, locally and globally.
George was District Governor for area 105EA for a year from July 2008. This area covers all of Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. Each year the District Governor's Lady chooses a charity to support for the year. It is usually one close to their heart.
“A very worthwhile cause”
Eileen said “I first heard about CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA through the Guiding Magazine I receive as I am also a Brown Owl. My Brownie pack did the Cheeky Monkey’s Marathon Challenge and since then I get regular fundraising information from the charity.
Also, my daughter has two friends who both have boys with leukaemia. Fortunately they are both in remission at the moment, each having had over two years of treatment. This is why I chose this very worthwhile cause.”
Eileen fundraised in various ways throughout 2008 until summer 2009. Activities included a number of raffles, quizzes, collections and other small events involving the district members and the community.
£5,500 raised
We were thrilled when Eileen told us she had raised £5,460.30 - and even more delighted to hear that this figure was rounded up by Eileen’s daughter to a fantastic £5,500.00!
We asked Clive Mascord, a very valued friend of CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA, to collect the cheque.
He met with Eileen and the other district members of the Lions Club at their cabinet meeting.
Thanks!
We would like to thank Eileen and George - as well as everyone who helped to raise this fantastic amount - for their kindness, support and generosity!
